What is DICOM?
Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) is the standard for the communication and management of medical imaging information and related data. DICOM is most commonly used for storing and transmitting medical images enabling the integration of medical imaging devices such as scanners, servers, workstations, printers, network hardware, and picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) from multiple manufacturers.
What is a Structured Report (SR)?
A DICOM Structured Report (SR or DSR) is a standard for encoding imaging diagnostic reports in a structured format, allowing for easier data exchange and analysis. It uses predefined templates and a tree-like structure to organize information, unlike free-text reports. DICOM SR documents can include text, measurements, and links to images or other data. Studycast uses Structured Report (SR) data sent from the modality to auto-populate measurements on the Studycast worksheet.
What is a calculation package?
An ultrasound calculation package, or 'calc package', is software integrated into ultrasound machines that automatically compute values based on scan measurements. It is used for tasks like measuring volumes, estimating gestational age, and calculating cardiac output. In order for measurement data to be included in the Structured Report, values need to be captured using a calculation package on the imaging device for the type of study being performed.
What is a PACS?
A Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) is a medical imaging technology used to securely store, retrieve, and transmit medical images.
What is a modality?
A medical imaging modality refers to the various techniques and technologies used to create images of the human body for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Common medical imaging modalities include Ultrasound, X-Ray, CT, MRI, PET, and Fluoroscopy
